Cats adore toys. If you were to close your eyes and reflect on your happiest moments with your cat, chances are that the images that come to mind are your cat(s) playing. Hunting, jumping, overpowering, and hitting toys around offers cats and their people lots of joy - so why do cats so often dismiss the toys we bring home for them?

There is one very practical rule to remember when getting toys for cats: cats like a variety of toys. They like a variety of interactive cat toys that use each of their hunting skills. If you have enough toys, you can rotate your cat's options so they can hunt for a preferred toy. Just don't hide a favorite toy away forever. Make sure your cats have opportunities to use all of their toys often.

What are the types of cat toys? Here are just a few:

Balls and chasers entice your cat to chase with feathers, fun noises, and uncommon shapes.

Chew toys are a great choice for cats that love to chew. They also help to keep your cat's breath fresh and their teeth clean.

Interactive and electronic toys bring out the best in your cat's hunting abilities.

Plush and mice toys eventually are treasured toys that can calm and ease your cat when it's time to go into the carrier.

Scratcher posts and mats are a must for all ages of cats, from kittens to more mature cats.

Teasers and wands are excellent toys for sharing playtime with your cat.

Tunnels become the hiding places where you can easily find your cat.

And variety packs help ensure your cat always has a fun toy.

Cats like toys that are light and small enough to be swatted without a lot of effort. They also like toys that are small enough to be grasped. And their favorite toys are objects they can engage with in numerous different ways.

When you are shopping for toys for your cat, you need to be sure they don't have any strings that could be pulled off and swallowed. They need to be large enough that your cat won't try to eat them. They should be made from non-toxic materials. Small button eyes and button noses are adorable, but anything that can be bitten off and swallowed is dangerous for your cat. Cats of all ages can be injured by toys with sharp points and edges. At Barkley's Pet Market, we only offer toys that are safe for your cat.

You will find the toys your cat will love at Barkley's Pet Market in Hardy, VA. We have a wide selection of toys to thrill every cat at prices that will excite you. Stop by today or call us with any questions.

What Our Customers Are Saying

We’re proud to serve pet families in Hardy and the Smith Mountain Lake area, including Moneta, Union Hall, Penhook, Westlake Corner, Burnt Chimney, and nearby communities!

I was traveling from Bedford to Rocky Mount when my dog got very car sick. I stopped and cleaned her up at another businesses parking lot. I thought we were good, then she got sick again, I looked over and there was Barkley's. I went in asked if they had any emergency medication that could help me relieve some.of my dogs sickness. Their extremely helpful staff showed me 3 options but the young lady took the time to read all the labels and said this is the one that will act the quickest. She rang me up and then helped me to get my drooling, scared and sick dog situated. She was wonderful! I can't say enough good things about the knowledge of staff and care they showed me as I was in midst of this stressful situation. We will be coming back to treats soon. Thank you to the Rockstar young ladies that tended the store today.
